Gozo Becomes One of Europe’s First Fully Electric Islands
Part of an €11 million investment by Malta Public Transport, the project has seen Gozo’s entire fleet of diesel buses permanently retired and replaced by zero-emission electric vehicles. Every bus now serving communities across the island — from Nadur to Xewkija, from Ramla to Qala — runs on clean electricity.
The scale of the achievement places Gozo among the first islands in Europe to complete a full transition to electric public transport. For residents and visitors alike, the change is already tangible: quieter roads, cleaner air, and a public transport network fit for the decades ahead.

The Charging Infrastructure Behind the Transition
Every night, Gozo’s electric bus fleet returns to Ta’ Xħajma and plugs into the charging depot EVPoint built. By morning, every vehicle is fully charged and ready for service — a seamless cycle that makes the whole system work.
The depot was delivered using Kempower DC charging technology, chosen for its reliability, performance, and suitability for high-demand fleet operations. EVPoint handled the full project scope: supply, installation, and commissioning.
